This is the first post on what is expected to be a new, fresh blog that Birmingham and Alabama natives can visit for humorous and interesting commentary on a broad range of topics from across the web. Give King LaLa a follow on twitter and spread the word to everyone you know!
Our first post was an easy choice as the Bingo Trial resumes in Montgomery, Ala. today. Lobbyist Jennifer Pouncey testified today that Country Crossing casino developer Ronnie Gilley was “desperate” to get a bingo bill passed through the Alabama Legislature two years ago and allegedly there was a $2 million dollar offer to former Sen. Jim Preuitt of Talladega for his support of the legislation. The bill would have legalized electronic bingo and most likely made Gilley and company a butt-load of cash. Considering the alleged huge bribe, we assume that the casino owners were expecting big returns on their investment.
This case is a waste of tax dollars and an even bigger waste of time. Make gambling legal and tax the casino’s earnings to help pay for our underfunded education system. Sinful or not, there will be some form of gambling in Alabama until the end of time.
