Montgomery native Octavia Spencer has won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in “The Help”. She gave an emotional, tear-filled speech as she accepted the Oscar.
“I would like to thank my family, my family in Alabama, the state of Alabama, my LA family . . . my ‘Help’ family,”
Before tonight, Louise Fletcher was the only Alabama-born Oscar winner. Fletcher won Best Actress in 1976 for her role in “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.”
Prior to the award show, Spencer gave a big War Eagle during an interview on the red carpet interview. She graduated from Auburn University in 1994 with a bachelors degree in liberal arts.
