Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III had the entire NFL community buzzing today after posting a scorching 4.38 40-yard dash time at the combine in Indianapolis. Griffin might want to get a realtor while he is in Indy. The Colts have long been expected to take Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck with the first pick in next month’s NFL draft but RGIII gave owner Jim Irsay a reason to reconsider on Sunday.
The last time NFL scouts have seen this type of speed from a quarterback was 12 years ago when Michael Vick stunned evaluators with a 4.25 at his pro day and 4.33 at the combine. He went on to be drafted first overall by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2001 draft
While the Colts decide which quarterback to draft with the top pick, the St. Louis Rams are lounging back in their cushy recliners, patiently awaiting the blockbuster deals that are sure to roll in for their highly-coveted No. 2 overall pick. Teams like the Cleveland Browns and Miami Dolphins are in desperate need of a franchise QB and after Griffin’s latest stunt, the price tag for the Rams pick just skyrocketed.
Griffin may not be the first quarterback off the board next month but with his impressive 40-time, he can expect to be paid like one.
