The No. 2 ranked Alabama golf team ended their season on a sour note today as they lost their final match of the season to No. 1 Texas 3-and-2, ending their run at winning their first national championship.
Crimson Tide sophomore Cory Whitsett went into the last hole all square in his match with Dylan Frittelli of Texas. Frittelli birdied the hole to win the match 1-up.
Sophomore Bobby Wyatt won his match against Toni Hakula 1-up with a birdie on the 18th hole. Junior Scott Strohmeyer lost 3 & 2 to Cody Gribble while freshman Justin Thomas lost 3 & 2 to Jordan Spieth.
Senior Hunter Hamrick won his match going away, 6 & 5.
The second-place finish for Alabama is the best performance in school history. Their previous best was a tie for third in 1975.
