“Coconut with passion fruit: If you drink that **** in Venezuela, you got effin’ diarrhea for two months!”
That’s what Miami Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen thinks of the latest American drink craze, coconut water.
U.S. coconut water sales doubled in 2011, and will reach an estimated $110 million in sales this year.
According to a Business Inquirer report, export earnings from the US increased by 426.75 percent to $3.94 million in the first three months of the year. Americans bought 3.72 million liters of Philippine coco water in the first quarter of 2012, against 796,887 liters in 2011.
Forbes said coconut water had become a popular energy drink abroad because of its natural qualities and lack of chemical preservatives, but Guillen thinks that’s dumb.
“You fake ass mother******, that’s not coconut! Effin’ coconut with ***damn passion fruit, effin’ stupid mother*******!”
Coconut water makers could care less. They are laughing at Guillen all the way to the bank.
